Global warming and climate change issues are perhaps the greatest threat to the future of all living organisms, which inhabit our planet and further life on Earth in general. Tragic extinction events, have already happened on Earth nearly 65 million years ago because of meteorite. Dinosaurs, reptiles, birds, mollusks and sea stars died out. Some species of animals and plants irretrievably gone. Sun darkened, day and night switched, darkness lasted for months. Followed by herbivores, predators began to die due to lack of food, sudden changes of life conditions and violation of the food chain. Entire life on Earth, lifestyle cycle, animals and plants diversities, usual order were totally disabled. Now, we are witnesses of the history repeating, but in the modern case, the reason for future catastrophe is not the meteorite, the reason is we by ourselves. Issues which has such a large significance that affects not only one or even 20 nations. Each nation, each person and each living organism will be suffering. All of us have to realize that if we do not unify our efforts between nations and each other, it will potentially lead us to the one of the biggest threat that come true. Floods will kill people, who are living nearly sea or ocean zones. Over time, people, who are suffering from illnesses of the lungs, heart or have a chronic illnesses will be dying from abnormally high temperatures, water will evaporate faster and this means that a lot of people will be suffering from exhaustion and dehydration of their organisms, majority species of plants and animals will disappear. However, the most important thing is that people will be suffering from natural disasters and we will not be able to stop it. Some countries will be struggling with floods, environment for Arctic animals will be in serious danger, global temperature will increasing year by year ,if we do not start to think about it now, when we can avoid all of these terrible things just by stepping in.
The European commission is particularly concerned with the latest results of scientific research and reports on the topic. To alleviate the probable future global detrimental consequences of global warming, such as snow cover decreased, declining Arctic ice, global temperature and sea level rise it is necessary for all countries to come together. It is a contemporary global issue because the majority of global community accepted collective responsibility for this and started working on the solutions to address increasing the temperature by creating the Paris agreement in December, 2015, which consists of 175 countries, including Canada. A lot of countries were engaged to this global issue and the first thing for cooperation between countries is the Paris agreement. It is a new version of the Kyoto protocol and has the same idea but in the new agreement mistakes of the protocol were corrected and the new program for decrease emissions gases should not seriously impact on the economy of other countries, so this aspect let sign this agreement for a lot of countries.
Paris agreement goals:
- Government agreed that a long term goal is keeping the increase the global average temperatures to below 2 degrees above the pre-industrial level
- To aim to limit the growth of 1.5 degrees and this would reduce risks and negative impact on climate change.
- Limitation of global bad emissions, especially for well-developing industrial countries.
- replace old technologies to the new ones for protection of ozone layer
- report to each other and general public about how well they are doing to reach their targets
- Each country will be working on achieving these goals on its own territory, but at the same time they will be enabled to support less successful and wealthy countries financially undertake rapid reductions thereafter, according with science, commitment to return frequently to make action of stronger, a response to the influence of extreme climate events on the most vulnerable and finance, capacity building and technology to reach real change
Future actions for prevent of climate change:
- Come together every 5 years to set more targets,as required by scientists
- Report to each other and ordinary people, how well they are doing to achieve their targets
- Provide international support for adaptation to developing countries
- acknowledges the need to cooperate and enhance the understanding, action and support in different areas such as early warning systems, emergency preparedness and risk insurance.
- scale up their efforts and support actions to reduce emissions
- promote regional and international cooperation
I believe, this agreement will be successful because of the following 4 reasons:technology replacement has already begun, the participants will be held accountable, the leading countries will be helping others and the 2 largest emitters of greenhouse gasses are included. Society had to pay more attention to this issue through the years but now our planet is really contaminated and all that we can do is correction of our past mistakes and try to prevent future consequences of climate change.
First of all, each country has to represent its work and statistics of improvement ,sharing and visualize its research, work and evidences, as well, as process of what nations are doing to implement their commitments. The agreement contains provisions to hold countries accountable to their commitments and mobilize greater investments to assist developing countries in building low-carbon, climate-resilient economies.
Secondly, the rapidly decreasing the cost of renewable energy and solar photovoltaic energy provide the great opportunity for nations around the world to replace old technologies and switch it on the low-carbon new technologies. We can convert sunshine to energy has become cheaper, far more quickly, than 30 years ago. Cost of solar energy has been decreasing at rate of 10 % per year. In many countries, renewable energy is already cheaper, than fossil fuels and this fact provides us the opportunity of improvement our factories and manufactures, using harmless equipment for environment, ozone layer and air but European commission helps countries, whose economy can’t allow to make this big changes. .
On top of this, European commission is already shown its work, according to researches’ and scientists’ opinion, which have done in 2014, greenhouse emissions decreased by 24%, compared to 1990. It’s already have a big impact on positive change of global warming and I am sure that mission of Paris agreement and European commission will continue to increase a progress and development of reduce emissions from atmosphere and they will achieve their goals. I think they will reach their goal of reducing of 60% of greenhouse emissions to 2030.
In addition, significance in the Paris Agreement was a commitment of action of USA and China, two largest emitters of greenhouse gasses and two largest economies in the world. China joined industrialized nations in pledging money to help poor nations cope with climate change. The money is intended to correction of future damage and mitigation circumstances resulting from global warming and climate change. 100 billion dollars per year for helping to poor countries with replacing equipment, reducing emissions and struggle with climate change will be giving from other more successful countries. This number was set as a goal, and was not included in Paris agreement intended to become legally binding.
In conclusion, I provided some evidence of my opinion and despite the skepticism of some ordinary people and scientists, I believe, that this agreement will work, as long, as we will continue to work together, give some help and support for countries that need it, analyze all of our mistakes that we have done in the past and fix them now.
