Inquiry Question

Environment   Apr 4, 2016 by Bridget Spoel

How will the production of local food in Northern Ontario be affected by our changing climate?

We got to this question by brainstorming about the problems in our community and ranking them. We discussed the relevance of each issue and decided which issues have the greatest impact on our community.

This is a great question because we know that eating local can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Also, being dependant on eating local is affected by climate change because of fluctuating growing season.

Manitoulin Secondary School has a very similar inquiry question about the importance of supporting locally grown food.

How much of your food is local?

Have you followed the controversy over ketchup?

Our group did the same thing to choose our topic. Eliminate the topics that were not local or were not a pressing issue today. Our topic was, how agriculture affected climate change with the release of greenhouse gases and how the consumption of meat affected it as well.

Great ideas! We intend to touch on the same subject so maybe we can make a shared doc and discuss where we are going with this topic. We are interested in what you have to say.
