How Climate Change Affects Asthma and Allergies

Problem: Climate change is making health conditions worse.

Since the temperature will increase deaths related to heat will increase. The temperature increase will cause more heat stroke and exhaustion, further worsen respiratory, circulatory, and nervous system health conditions. Also, high carbon dioxide levels can increase plant growth and pollen production which will cause there to be more allergens in the air. If exposed to these, it can result in more severe allergies. Some of the inflammatory triggers for asthma are certain air pollutants, pollen, animals, and dust. Due to the plant's pollen production increasing, people with asthma will have more asthma attacks because there's lots of things in the air to cause their airways to inflame. Lastly, hay fever is a type of allergy that about 50% of children in Canada suffer from. Hay fever is an allergy caused by airborne substances that causes the eyes and nose become itchy and inflame. Once again, because there will be more pollen and allergens in the air, people with hay fever will have longer allergy seasons and their condition could get worse.

How Can We Fix This?

1. The government can make a law saying that car idling is only allowed for 2 minutes. This will reduce the amount of gases released into the air.
