My proposed solution to the issue of disease in fish due to heavy rainfall from climate change would be to put standards on the products of large companies regarding how environmentally safe they are. If the standards are not met, the provincial government should be able to fine the company. I understand the influence and impact that corporations have on the government and the environment and it is my belief that companies with so much power and potential to affect the earth in such a negative way should be held to a higher standard and be more accountable for their actions.
For example, a car company which has monopolies in oil and fuel, may want to make cars which are heavy on fuel, and therefore hard on the environment. From the point of the company, this is a great idea as the only consequence of their actions (climate change) doesn't directly affect them. There is no accountability in this. The government could make fuel output standards on cars being manufactured, and put fines in place for when these standards are not met. This would not only decrease carbon dioxide emissions but it would also increase pressure on companies such as these to manufacture their products in greener, more efficient ways. This would all aid in decreasing greenhouse gas outputs in order to cool the earth and prevent heavy rainfall which causes algal blooms that are detrimental to the fish population.
