Question:

How can our changes in transportation help minimize climate change?

Current Situation

●Transportation is responsible of canada 28% greenhouse gas emission in canada

● Ontario is building transit friendly cities.

● We have ended coal-fired electricity generation in the province.

● Current trends demonstrate that by 2050 communities will be climate resilient, complete and compact. People will start to use more electric cars or other zero emission vehicles to travel.

●Also in downtown Toronto parking is very expensive which makes people want to take the TTC and encourages them to reduce the use of vehicles.

Answer to question

●Change can be made by introducing higher tax on gasoline and diesel.

●Encourage use of freight by rail rather than by road.

●Create a low carbon economy through cap trade system. This will limit pollution and create investment opportunities in Ontario. The "cap" puts a limit on how many tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions businesses, institutions, and households can emit.

●The government should give a higher percent of tax return if someone drives a electric car. This reward system will help many make the switch to electric cars, benefitting the environment.

Action to take

●We should switch to more eco-friendly vehicles such as Tesla and other electric cars which have given us a way to minimize climate change.

●Instead of a v8 people now have the option to buy v4 cars that consume very little gas.

●Reduce speed limits because more speed increases fuel usage.

●In downtown Toronto parking should become even more expensive which will make people want to take the TTC and encourages them to reduce the use of vehicles.

●Our busses/trains should also be electric to avoid major emissions.
