Recycling

Environment   Mar 3, 2017 by Maja

These are our questions about recycling:

  • Why don’t we have blue boxes and green boxes in Cranbrook? And how many people in Cranbrook would actually use their recycling bins if they had them?
  • How much of the garbage is actually recycled and what does it become?
  • How much would the CO2 levels decrease if more people recycle?

I think my family has really changed our recycling habits since we got our blue recycling bins. I don't remember a time before we had then but I can imagine it was a lot more difficult to keep up with our recycling. I think they will get used because it is very easy and low maintenance.

Hey Maja,

I found your inquiry questions very interesting, I’ve never really thought about what becomes of the things recycled. I would suggest trying to talk to your principal and seeing whats the cause behind it, i think people would recycle and it could probably have a positive outcome. I look forward to seeing and hearing how that turns out. Good luck!

Hey Maja,

It is great to see that you are raising awareness to this issue ! it needs to be heard and taken action of. I am surprised that Crankbrook does not have access to recycling bins. I am sure many of the citizens would practice this Eco friendly way of eliminating recycling or waste products. The CO2 levels would definitely decrease in enormous amounts if people had access to recycling

I am really interested in your future plans and actions regarding this issue. I am interested in your further research into this topic. Once again, I am surprised that citizens of Cranbrook do not have access to recycling! and I hope that this will change because of your voice and the action you are investing into this research

Good luck!

Hello Maja,

I am surprised that there are no blue and green boxes in Cranbrook. I thought those were everywhere in Canada. Have you thought of interviewing your local Waste Management office on their recycling process?

Hey Maja,

Thanks for raising this issue! It's very important to be aware that while many Canadian communities offer recycling and composting services, many still have not implemented such services.

I am very interested to see what you find out and excited about the future action projects that could happen based on your research!
