How to take action to sustain a healthy environment for the future!

Environment   Mar 21, 2017 by Baylie Adams

A very important issue society is facing, especially younger generations, is the future health of our environment. A lot of people, especially myself, are becoming concerned with the well being of the environment due to concerns regarding climate change, and may want to become involved in whatever way one can to help reduce the negative effects pollution is having on earth. So to start, spreading awareness about the importance of environmental action, how we can act, and moreover, knowledge on how we can prepare to face short and long term environmental issues is initially a critical aspect in circulating confidence throughout society in that meaningful change is, in fact, possible.

Luckily, I have a great group of people to meet with in regards to climate action! And just talking with others who are also aware and concerned with environmental issues such as emissions, climate change, and large corporations and industries that produce energy in a way that is hurtful to the environment for example, has already broadened my outlook on ways I can be a part of making a change towards a healthier environment in the future. We've discussed and researched many different ways people, like me and others I presume would also be reading this blog, such as students and younger generations who have the opportunities and means to go into and study more environmentally friendly ways of producing energy in the future. So, some of the most helpful resources we've decided, for those who want to become involved with climate action, is information regarding certain professions to consider going into so that a smooth transition to clean energy can be established eventually in the future without harming the economy, especially for Alberta, in the process.

Here are a few professions to consider in respect to getting involved with environmental concerns:

            Long Term

      1. Engineering (Geothermal, Solar, Fuel efficient vehicles) note: going into engineering requires good grades so make sure you study hard!!
      2. Water Quality Technicians
      3. Forestry (UBC, lots of volunteer and summer camp work available as well)

      Short Term

The idea of having a healthier environment in the future is indeed possible. I am with you, I believe that a change can be done by using environmentally friendly energy sources in the future such as solar panels and wind propels. Also, spreading the word, raising awareness, and  knowledge our future and the future of the following generations can he greatly imporved. The soulitons to this problem are out there, people just need to open their eyes and take action.

After reading about your concern, i definitely agree with what you said because it has been said if climate change keeps continuing, and don't change our lifestyle on earth, it will end in about soon maybe in about fifty years. Not only that but it has me thinking what will life be like if it was to end soon, what are other things we are going to see if we don’t think of solutions to solve these problems. What are ways we can address this to people that don’t agree with it? This is different from what I have researched about but it is something interesting that I would look into especially with you living in Alberta where all the oil industry is no one wants to lose their jobs. I think you should research ways where new jobs are introduced so it becomes a smooth transition for people.

Hey Baylie,

I agree with Jamila- this is a very interesting topic, and one that is directly applicable to your futures.

Take a look at this link: https://www.liberal.ca/realchange/opportunities-fo...

Has the party reached its target? What are some of the limitations in creating green jobs for youth?

Keep up the great work!

Hello Baylie,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think this is a wonderful topic you have written about. Many jobs are cropping up in the environmental sector and since our youth are the future leaders of tomorrow, it is great for them to explore these careers!
