Freezing rain Findings # 3

Question:

Many stores have food and drinks that are refrigerated but are connected using electricity, and if the electricity was out because the power was out, the food and drinks would be destroyed and could not be eaten. What are some ways for people to be prepared if this happens and some alternatives to what they would eat and drink if they couldn’t go to the store and buy food?

Answer:

If power is out, there is no electricity pumping to the freezers in the grocery store. To save all of the foods and drinks, group the packages into un-full freezers to form like an igloo to protect each other. Keep the doors close as long as possible to keep freezer cold. Store food on shelves, safety away from water in case of flooding. Buy dry or block ice to keep refrigerator as cold as possible. To be prepared ahead of time, you could buy a generator to keep in case this sort of thing happens.
