MSS Climate Change Blog #CCWIL

Environment   Apr 18, 2016 by Isaac Gosse

Recently, from the #CCWIL Webinar, I have learned so much about what is going on in our communities, and what we are able to do to prevent major climate changes. I have come to realize some amazing changes in our community and what we can do to be more environmentally friendly. For example, our fuel emissions are one of the largest problems when it comes to climate. A way we can reduce it would be to; take public transportation, carpool more often, and eat local food within 100km to reduce travel costs of large shipping companies and trucking companies, etc.

Whilst in my group, we discussed the different trends in all these different communities, such has seasonal activities and agriculture. We talked about how important it is to our communities and how we can protect them, if you will. A few ways that we considered was how we look at our local farmers, and where they stand business wise; Are they selling? Are the profitable? Are we buying from them enough? How does this affect the climate? The biggest point that our group came up with is; We want local food in more areas of our community, such as our school cafes, and grocery stores. From our understanding, the food that ends up in our cafe is not local, and needs to be federally inspected. We find that it would be more beneficial for our communities economy, and Ontario's.

I am very excited to hear about what happens when we get our opinion heard by Kathleen Wynne!
