Climate Change Hypothesis - Emma Moore

Hypothesis: With the number of extreme heat days rapidly increasing, Gananoque is expected to experience severe climate change in the years leading up to 2050. Droughts and crop failure are among the many negative ramifications that climate change poses. It is hypothesized that Gananoque’sclimate will experience drastic change over the course of the next 50 years. Said change has the potential to negatively affect agricultural industries which could create economic turmoil in the region. I believe the ethanol industry is going to fail because of the ample conflicts negatively affecting the corn and agriculture industry in the Gananoque region. To conclude, climate change is a very serious issue both globally and locally and needs to be treated as such.

Question: Will climate change severely affect transportation in Ontario with the failure of crops used in ethanol?

Could farmers in this area grow crops that are more drought tolerant than corn, which could also be used for ethanol production? Perhaps a grass crop with high sugar content? Maybe our experimental farm in Ottawa is or should be working on a crop like this.

An "extreme heat day" is any day where the temperature reaches over 30 degrees Celsius!
