Questions

  • If freezing rain increases a lot by 2050 will we have to design a new way to distribute power if power lines can’t hold heavy ice?
  • Will there be school in summer if the buses are cancelled too much because of freezing rain?
  • If freezing rain increases by 2050 will there be a new way of transportation to drive on ice covered roads?
  • If the projection for freezing rain are true will there be a new laws to drive on ice covered roads?
  • Will more trees have to be cut down or trimmed if there is more freezing rain?

Answers

  • In Toronto they are using combined heat and power systems. These are used for when the power goes out. Roof top solar systems are also becoming popular. I don’t think freezing rain will be a big problem in the future if more people install these systems. In cities the power lines are underground. So they aren’t a problem.

  • I am still waiting to hear back
  • People will still use cars and trucks but they will just have to deal with driving in ice more often. They can use chains on tires and everybody might have to get winter tires.
  • It could become a law to have winter tires and to get car tires tested before driving on ice covered roads. I couldn't find much on the question.
  • To avoid tree coming down on power lines and buildings we will need to maintain and make sure they can hold heavy ice. Trees that dead, leaning, or have cracks would have to be cut down before big ice storms.
