Agriculture

Ontario agriculture consists of commercial hog, dairy, and beef cattle farms, cash crops for example: soybeans and corn, vegetables and fruits. Climate change continuous to pose a risk to our Canadian agriculture.

Extreme weather and flooding can impact livestock by increasing the risk of illness and death, and could also increase the distribution of infectious diseases in animals, such as E. coli enteritis and Salmonellosis

Researchers say that the growing seasons have been getting both longer and warmer over most areas in Canada. Although this increased warming trend is seen as a potential benefit in the future, research suggests that there will be a decrease in water availability over the growing period which will impact crops negatively.

There are many other factors of climate change that are impacting agriculture right now and in the future. We need to create innovative ways to decrease the effects of climate change on our Canadian agriculture.

These sound like really valid points, and could really be useful for future idea's and innovations. What would one of the ways of getting agriculture to stay where its currently at, or even improve it? How could we innovate? What, precisely, would we innovate for in this situation? Would it be for growth improvement? Larger crops? Richer soil? Figuring out ways to grow plants all through the year? Awesome post!
