Effects of Droughts on Farming

Apr 18, 2016 by Eric, Mason, Myatt, Luigi

2012 was a year of many farmers facing a very sad reality. The year of 2012 Ontario was witness to the worst drought seen in decades. With this drought came shockingly lowering water levels, and withering plants and high hopes that rain would eventually come. With each passing day the fields, and crops were getting drying and withering further. With every passing day the farmers hopes and dreams dwindled further, and further crushing any hopes the farmer may have had that the rain would eventually come. The rain never did come though, for thousands of farmers crops did not yield correctly. Meaning income was then effected as well, this was a hard pill to swallow but it was the reality of the issue. This was a huge blow to an already struggling industry to begin with. 2012 was a year to be remembered, and a year that many in the industry do not want to relive. We can help by taking control of climate change, so that things like these do not happen. 2012 very well could have spelt the end of agriculture as we know it, if we were to experience another drought of this size or on a larger scale would be catastrophic for all of Ontario and the farming industry.

If we had another drought do you believe it would affect Canada as a whole region or just the farmers that farm our food. We need to stop this from happening again without damaging the earth more than we've already done.
