Affects of Climate Change on Infrastructure

Apr 20, 2016 by Bilal

The problem with the infrastructure in London is that it was built years ago when the climate wasn’t as rough as it is now. The weather we used to get was not as harsh as it is now. With the the changing climate weather is getting worse and harder to be safe from. Climate change can lead to an earthquake which are getting bigger stronger and are doing lots more damage could happen any time in london. The earthquake would cause lots of destruction to ; homes roads bridges and cause death. The amount of precipitation is another factor of climate change that could affect our city. The more it rains and snows the more the water level will rise. Water level rises cause flooding, which causes damage to cars, roads building such as hospitals and retirement homes. Flooding causes the roads to lose some of the life span it was built to have by a couple years. Damage to roads also prevents access to emergency vehicles were needed.

Water level rises can also cause failure in the electric grid which causes failure in water treatment, transportation services and public health.

So what should we do to help prevent all theses things from happening? Well first the city of london needs to design new infrastructure that can handle the type of climate that we will be getting. The design should be able to withstand flooding and electric failures.

So this is what i think london should do to help prevent major damage to london.
