Greenhouse Gas Emissions and how it affects the Lake and its ecosystem

Apr 22, 2016 by Connor

over the last few years London, Ontario has been doing its best to reduce the amount of Greenhouse gas it puts into the atmosphere. the greenhouse gas that we out into the atmosphere is not natural and therefore is harmful to the enviroment. what this un-natural greenhouse gas is doing is actually depleting the ozone layer of the earth. the ozone layer help make sure that none of the harmful sun rays can get through. what is happening is that becasue london is not one of the Largest cities in its area its efforts cant do much alone. a good example of this was in 2011 when the ozone layer was so thin that huge algae blooms began to form in lake eire. what these algae blooms are doing is blocking out the sun that can get down to the bottom of the lake to give the plants down there engery. those plant would eventually die and the microorganisms that feed on those plants will die too. when they die the small fish that eat them will die the bigger fish that eat the small fish will also die... so on and so on. however there is one kind of fish that includes many species of fish that will thrive in this kind of enviroment is invasive species. this is partly why we have seen so many gobies in lake erie these last few years it is because the lakes ecosystem has not yet fully recovered from the 2011 algae blooms. if we all work together every city in Ontario we can stop the depletion of the ozone layer and fix this planet. together we can make Earth great again
