Transportation and Air Pollution

Environment   May 4, 2016 by Christon Seaton

The amount of air pollutants we have in our air as a whole is overwhelming. About 69% of all our harmful emissions come from motorised transportation in general which includes but is not limited to: cars, buses, trains, trucks and streetcars. The concentration of pollution in our ozone is rising by the moment, and we have not been able to curve it's course since long before 2004. If we want to fix our current air pollution situation here in Ontario, we must give a tax return to those whom buy an electric vehicle, instead of a fuel-powered one while giving the return a slogan that will say the reason for the return is to help the environment which will raise awareness of our plight. Even if people only buy the electric cars for the tax return, we are still decreasing gas emissions, and we are putting out our idea for lowering emissions and saving our province. Moreover, people tend to go buy fuel-powered cars, because they grew up knowing them and because many luxury cars are still non-electric. Therefore we must help luxury car dealers promote electric luxury cars and showcase famous people driving in them (basically what we do now with commercials but for our health). We can also show young children more and more electric cars, and lessen the amount of gasoline burning cars we show so that the cars that they know and trust are good for the environment. Finally, stations to charge your electric car is very scarce in Ontario, meaning that we should create a law that forces a gas station to have at least one electric car charging station for use at all times so that people will not stay away from an electric car brand in fear they get stranded without anything to power their car. We need to take the necessary steps forward in order to reverse all the steps back we have taken with our environment starting with clean driving.
