Inquiry Question Blog #1

What might Torontonians need to do in order to help cope with the health effects of climate change?

The overall purpose of researching many of the climate change issues that the city of Toronto faces is to try and depict the problems and ways we can reduce how climate change affects us. There are many factors of how climate change can affect our daily lives and it us up to us to try and figure out ways to limit the harm we input to our environment. There is a point in time where many people need to realize the effects of climate change and work together to help minimize these effects. I came to this question by realizing that climate change is happening now and it is the things we need to do in order to cope with it that matters. The importance of our health overall should be a priority.

Hello Ayub,

I found a little excerpt from the EPA's website (based in United States) about vector borne diseases and how global warming causes the spread of the diseases earlier in the year. Check it out and let me know what you think about it: https://www.epa.gov/climate-impacts/climate-impact...

Part of the article says:

"Vectorborne diseases are illnesses that are transmitted by disease vectors, which include mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas. These vectors can carry infectious pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria, and protozoa, from animals to humans. Changes in temperature, precipitation, and extreme events increases the geographic range of diseases spread by vectors and can lead to illnesses occurring earlier in the year."

Hey Ayub,

Great question! I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I also think it's important to think about how you are going to talk to your community about it; what are some ways that you can raise awareness of the issues/actions that we can take?

I'll be keeping an eye out for what follows.

Cheers!
